While the pulp keeps your tooth alive, the structure of your tooth can be preserved without it. Dr. Stenvall will access the center of your tooth and remove the infected pulp and the nerves. Then, he will slightly enlarge the pulp chamber and thoroughly disinfect it, fill it with a medicated material and seal it. It is not uncommon for the tooth to be covered with a crown or cap to protect it from infection, and this is usually done during a follow-up visit. Be sure to take any medicine (especially antibiotics) as directed, and contact our office if you experience any pain, swelling, chills, a fever or nausea. If you have a tooth that has been giving you cause for concern, call 864-963-7237 to schedule your visit at Blue Ridge Dentistry of Simpsonville.
