Although custom dentures are available, they basically fall into two categories:

• A full denture replaces all of the upper or lower teeth in a person’s smile. They can also be used to replace the teeth in both arches. It may be necessary to keep them in place with denture adhesive.
• Partial dentures are made to replace several missing teeth. They may resemble a retainer and have metal clasps that are used to secure them to the remaining teeth. A “flipper” denture, which is often used as a temporary tooth replacement, is a partial denture.

Your full or partial dentures will be custom-made to fit your smile, but you may need some time to adjust to them. You may need to learn how to pronounce certain words again and cut your food into smaller pieces or long strips to make it easier to chew.
